KIVALINA IRA COUNCIL voids special election!

The Kivalina IRA Council had a special election in February 2011 to fill the vacant seats which were once held by three (3) former members who have since resigned and one was voted out. Because no one turned in their criminal background check, no one on the ballot were qualified to run so they voided the election by poll vote in the February 22 special meeting.

Janet Mitchell ran in October of 2010 and won Seat A.  She was finally sworn in on February 22, 2011.  So the council now operates with four (4) members until such time that three members are appointed.

If you are interested in being on the Tribal Council, please remember, you have to send for a criminal background check from the State Troopers office located in Anchorage and submit it to the Tribal Administrator.  The State Troopers main office number is 265-5511.
